MEET HANNAH
Hi, I'm Hannah!

I've been teaching since the age of 14, starting as a volunteer at the local Hood River Pool. I grew up swimming, first learning as an infant from my mother, who is also a swim instructor. I swam competitively from age five to college and started Little Splashes in my backyard at 16. I have served as a lifeguard, swim instructor, Special Olympics, swim coach, camp counselor, Doula, and health coach. In 2024 I will launch HELD IN WATER, a gentle approach to online learning and water introductions for babies.
Trained and certified through YMCA, WSI, NSSA, CPR certified
5 years as a prenatal & infant massage therapist. Certified Doula and freebrith for over 10 years.

Water Babies Portugal 2024-Created by Kfir Kol in 2005, this technique was developed while observing and working with his own newborn babies in the water. Over the years, he has perfected not only the movements, but also the cognitive, ergonomic and sensorial knowledge of the baby, becoming the biggest expertise in the field. For babies, the experience provides the activation of recent womb memories, the return to freedom of movement and to a natural and protected aquatic environment.
MEET SOPHIA
Sophia's passion for aquatics was ignited in her youth, a time she fondly remembers for its close water connection. From her early teens, Sophia embarked on a meaningful journey as a swim instructor, beginning with her inaugural role in Boston, where she introduced city kids to the joys and essentials of swimming. This experience was pivotal, teaching her the invaluable lesson that the ability to swim is not just a skill but a privilege.
Over the years, Sophia has expanded her expertise to teach swimming to individuals of all ages, further enriching her experience by serving as a waterfront director at various camps. Her competitive spirit found its roots in her swimming career, where she competed and led as the captain of a Division 1 collegiate swim team.
Sophia's academic and professional journey is equally impressive. She holds a degree in Elementary Education and has applied her passion for teaching and mentorship in the public school system as a primary teacher. Her commitment to safety and excellence in swimming instruction is underscored by her certifications in Water Safety Instruction (WSI) through the YMCA and CPR, ensuring a comprehensive and secure learning environment for her students.
Sophia's multifaceted career reflects her dedication to empowering others through swimming, education, and leadership, making her an invaluable asset to any educational or aquatic program.
Sophia will be our traveling private swim teacher for 2024, she also housesits and does private tutoring!
MEET KATE -
Kate grew up in Hood River, learning to swim at the old Hood River outdoor public pool and Elks club pools.
Her family always took vacations that involved some way to swim. A lake, river, or hotel swimming pool was always involved. Even today, you can find her kiteboarding or swimming at the waterfront in the summer. It is her happy place. From floaters to senior life-saving and participation in the high school swim and diving teams to certified Water Safety instructors, she continued learning and even taught other high school students to swim during her high school years.
Now retired from public service, she is returning to swim teaching. “The joy of watching little ones become just as comfortable under the water as out makes me smile every time!” “You are never too young or old to learn to swim and enjoy it as a sport or more importantly, as a way to relax.”

MEET MARY
Her passion for all things aquatic was nurtured from an early age, surrounded by a family who cherished their time at the beach, lakes, and pools throughout her childhood. This love for water seamlessly transitioned into her adulthood, where she began to specialize in teaching swimming to infants, toddlers, and preschool children. Her dedication extended to working with children and adults with special needs through the Special Olympics, an experience that deeply influenced her decision to pursue a career in special education. For over 30 years, she dedicated herself to this field, with the latter half of her career spent enriching the lives of students in Hood River.
As she started her own family, her children were introduced to the water at the earliest opportunity, continuing the tradition of water affinity she had known. For many years, she taught swimming in private backyard pools, sharing her love and expertise with the next generation. These days, her joy comes from spending time with her grandson, Saylor, and riding her beloved Haflinger horse, Tess. To the children in the gorge, she is affectionately known as Nana, a testament to her warm and nurturing presence.
After a significant break from teaching, she is thrilled to be returning to the world of swim instruction, not just as a teacher but also in a deeply personal role, as the mother of Hannah, the proud owner of Little Splashes Swim School. This new chapter is not only a comeback but also a testament to a beautiful evolution within their family. Her daughter, sharing the same passion for swimming and teaching, has welcomed her back with open arms into this aquatic venture. Together, they are excited to welcome your little ones into their extended family, eager to instill a love for swimming through Little Splashes Swim School.
